I was first introduced to my natural self by force, not choice. One day my father came home and said to my sister and me, “You’re never getting those relaxers again. They have the same chemicals as Drain-O!”
That day, I had to get comfortable with my natural hair — fast. Without a guide, I turned to every source I could find: YouTube, blogs, stylists, and countless products. Still, my hair stayed stuck at shoulder length for years. No matter what I tried, it wouldn’t grow.
Everything changed when I stopped trying to fix my hair and started learning from it. I started to use only the products I could read and understand what’s inside of them; my haircare became a sacred practice for me. That shift reconnected me to my roots — spiritually, ancestrally, and scientifically.
Today, I am a biologist with nearly a decade of research in hair growth and a student of naturopathic medicine, bridging evidence-based science with spirit-led healing. This path runs deep in my lineage — my grandfather was a healer in our motherland, using the earth’s elements and his intuitive gifts to restore both the body and the spirit.
My name, Thembekile, means trustworthy. That meaning guides everything I create. My company is named in that same spirit — Thembekile Rx, a trustworthy prescription for your crown. Every treatment is just what the doctor ordered — handcrafted, intentional, and rooted in love.
Beyond my personal practice, I share this knowledge widely. I partner with non-profit organizations to provide hair education programs that empower individuals to understand and care for their natural hair. I also wrote “What Is Good Hair?” — a simple yet powerful guide that makes hair care accessible to everyone, from youth to grandparents.
This exchange of knowledge and connection deepens through my Advanced Hair Healing Ceremony — an intimate ancestral experience that unites science, spirit, and self-love.
Through this work, I’ve learned that when I reconnect with my roots, I reclaim my power — and the world begins to see me differently, too.
